A young coyote was feasting on a bison carcass and a bold raven swopped into the scene with hopes of reaping protein from the dead bison.  Very cold temperatures and deep snow claims the lives of winter-weakened bison; predators like coyotes are one of the beneficiaries.  An adult bison's weight ranges from a half-ton (1,000 pounds) up to a ton (2,000 pounds).  A carcasses can be a substantial source of protein for predators and scavengers.
