Hyalite Canyon is a popular getaway and playground near Bozeman which boasts exceptional recreational areas. In the canyon, there are three campgrounds including Langohr Campground along Hyalite Creek, Hood Creek Campground and Chisholm Campground. There are many short and long hiking routes in this canyon. Hyalite Reservoir, constructed in the late 1940's and enlarged in 1993 is home to cutthroat trout, brook trout and arctic grayling. Practice Rock has variety and challenge enough for days of climbing. In the winter, when temperatures plummet, ice-climbing opportunities abound. In fact, some of the world’s great ice and mixed-route destinations are in the canyon.
