This American pika (Ochotona princeps), with one leg up, is making a short call, which she  sometimes utteres as an alarm and to announce that the she is departing or returning from foraging.

The American pika is a small member of the rabbit family that inhabits alpine regions of south-western Canada and the western U.S.,  The soles of the feet are densely furred, except for small black pads at the end of the toes.
