This adult American Pika was replenishing energy after multiple food-gathering runs. By eating grass and fresh vegetation, they restore lost calories.
Pikas are active in the daytime and at night. Our infrared night cameras reveal the pikas are active almost every hour of the day and night. They are active throughout the year, and consume stored food (grass, vegetation, mushrooms, lichen, algae, sticks, and other goodies) to survive and venture out to forage when the weather permits.
