It was early May and a group of Sandhill Cranes returned to Montana.  A tall, gray-brown bodied, crimson-capped bird stopped for a moment and filling the air with a distinctive rolling cry, like that of a reed instrument in a symphony.   This Sandhill Crane then went on to forage for seeds and invertebrates in a sagebrush prairie.
